Mushroom 5 (D)

bracket fungus
burgundy to light brown on top
solid brownish underneath
leathery
5 separate samples
ranging from 7.5 cm wide to 4 cm wide
all same thickness mostly 0.7 cm thickness
focus on 7.5 cm wide one
brown pore holes,
0.3 long cap
almost sort of fuzzy

Im actual very sure on this one
I'm going to identify this as Phaeolus scweinitzii
notice in my description, I noticed it was "almost sort of fuzzy" one of the characteristics of the P. schweinitzii is 'velvet like'. Also, another characteristic is that they "commonly incorporate blades of grass, twigs, or fallen pine needles as they grow. Notice that first picture up there, ^^ It was something I noticed even when collecting the sample.

check out this link for more info: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/nr/fid/fidls/fidl-177.pdf

One can see the stump from this angle. Another one of the characteristics stated in the article by the US Department of Agriculture is that "Advanced decay caused by P. schweinitzii is a brown cubical rot."
Notice the cube like decayed stump between the D note card and the knife. Another thing I noticed when I was collecting the sample.
